Framework Knitters Museum

Framework Knitters Museum

Follow my photographs through the award winning Framework Knitters Museum in Ruddington. It shows how people survived, making a living knitting garments for over 400 years. The cottages have been so well preserved, they are truly authentic and everywhere you turn there is something to learn, admire or to astound you. Many people from this area can associate with this industry - having family that were involved in the hosiery trade  - it is a fascinating place and well worth a visit.

 This section is unbelieveable..................

You could even buy a selection of plants and they were only £3.00 each.

In this room, one of the volunteers was showing us how to make socks on a circular machine. There are film shows in here too (but not running on the day I visited).

I love these steps up to the first floor - I don't think I have ever seen such worn steps in a house before.

Cushioning!!!

You could get refreshments in the Chapel Gallery, as well as knit a scarf for £1.00, admire the knitted work that was on display there, and the paintings and ornate work upstairs.

There was so much history here - something new in ever room - I thoroughly enjoyed it.
