Derbyshire places to go

Wonderful ancient forests on the way up to Stanton Moor from Rowsley. The sunshine made the ferns appear so bright, and there were so many shades of green - one could have been in a tropical rain forest not in Derbyshire.

There was a surprise at the top - the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, the site of ancient Druid and Pagan ceremonies

It really is Derbyshire's very own Stonehenge.

Earl Grey Tower - named after the famous British Prime Minister who bought about the 1832 Reform Bill, although he is more famous for the cup of tea that is named after him.

Stanton Moor is full of stone monoliths, colourful rhododendrons, heather and ancient sites.

More bluebell woods - they have been spectacular this year.

This week, it was baby calves😊.

Lovely to see the High Peak Steam Railway go past. I will have to go on that one day.

A fabulous smell from the wild garlic as we walked along the river. Apparently you can eat every part of the wild garlic plant - will have to try that!

Wonderful sunny day in Derbyshire starting at Ogston Reservoir.

Old lead quarry near Ashover.

Blue bells through the woods and a fabulous smell of wild garlic.

This rock is a place called the Fabrick and from here you can see 4/5 counties. Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

And this made us all laugh at lunchtime - it's a banana saver!!!!!

All in all - a thoroughly enjoyable day!

High Peak Junction section of the Cromford Canal is a delightful place for an afternoon stroll. These photos are heading towards Whatstandwell - totally different to heading towards Cromford itself.

There is a lovely little shop that sells books, sweets and drinks; a workshop to look around (see photo below) and some toilets!

Rochester Dickensian Christmas Market and Saltfleet Seals

Rochester Christmas Market

If you want a weekend away and a Christmas Market with a difference - go to Canterbury and then visit Rochester for the Dickensian Market. This year it is being held on 3rd - 4th December.

After a lovely day visiting the Cathedral, the quaint alleyways and shops in Canterbury, you can head a few miles to Rochester.

They have a Christmas market at the Castle up on the hill, selling lots of unusual items.

There is a fabulous parade through the streets of Rochester, with people dressed in different costumes relating to the Dickens era.

There is even fake snow provided - to add to the atmosphere!

If you are looking for something a bit different to do this month - how about taking the family to the seaside! I know it is too cold for a paddle - but how about getting up close to some very special wildlife. If you head for the east coast, 20 minutes north of Mablethorpe, you will find Donna Nook. Follow the road down to the coast and you will be in for a real treat when you reach the end. At this time of year, the seals come in to have their pups and what a delightful sight it is seeing them so close. There is a special path that has been fenced off - so make sure you stay behind it. We don't want the seals getting any of our germs!
