Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Follow my day wandering around the fantastic Yorkshire Wildlife Park - much more special than you can ever imagine. It is described at the UK's Number One Walk through Wild Life Adventure - and it certainly is that. Many animals there have been rescued from atrocious conditions all around the world and given a safe place to live out their lives. They all have so much room in which to roam, their habitats are so well thought out and everywhere is so well kept.
Starting off at the Baboon enclosure........
This little one couldn't have been very old.............
There is a walk-through area where the Lemurs are kept - so you can get really close to them.
This is the part I was excited about seeing - the only Polar Bears in England! They have 10 acres of land in which to live, and are happy living in conditions that aren't always freezing cold.
The next section was an area described as South America Viva................with animals from that continent such as the capybara below.
Next was the Giant Otter enclosure - again from South America.
Then I arrived at The Land of The Tigers....................and what an amazing site they are!
Unfortunately the Giraffes didn't fancy going outside (it was a very cold day when I went), so I had to see them inside their "House". What a height they are!
They are often out in the section called Into Africa - I may have to come back another time and see them outside. They are such magnificent creatures.
The next section was Into Africa, with Zebras, sometimes the giraffes, impalas etc...
Then I arrived at "Lion Country" and was so surprised at what I read on the notice-board below. The Park rescued 13 lions from Romania in 2010, flying them over and caring for them in specially constructed enclosures. It's quite a remarkable story.
Go through the Wallaby Walkabout enclosure - and get really close to these delightful little animals.
The Meerkat Mansion is full of the cutest little creatures.............
There are several cafes around the park, with more kiosks open during busy times and holidays. There's an assortment of shops by the entrance at Safari Village, as well as the biggest gift shop full of cuddly toys - that you won't be able to resist.
Throughout the day, there are talks by the very informative rangers at various areas in the park. I think I will have to go and visit again and enjoy some of these talks - and see anything I missed. You can also pay to have close-up experiences with some animals - that sounds worth doing too! One day is not enough at this amazing place. There are also so many places for children to play, get involved with certain animals and lots of picnic areas.
It is well worth a visit any time of the year - you can even buy an annual pass. For More information go to www.yorkshirewildlifepark.com
I hope you enjoyed this rather different blog!
